Ah yes, the wonderful world of spring! I’m surprised that Hallmark has not yet promoted spring into some sort of crazy blown out of proportion holiday! I guess they can’t have the corner on every market.
Whether Hallmark announces the change in season or not, it’s time for the season to change. This is good for most - flowers start to bloom, floods occur in low lying land, woman and fashion-aware men change out their wardrobe colors, college students wish they were still on spring break, retailers up the ante on swimsuits, golfers polish off their clubs, I blog about it, half the population of Florida moves back north, and lets not forget the rash influx of kittens.
In other related news, this weekend should prove to be an interesting battle with our time keeping mechanisms. This upcoming Sunday marks the typical day on which we would spring forward our clocks by one hour, but as a result of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, we’ve already made the necessary changes this year. I was recently surprised at the number of technology devices that actually changed the time properly a week and a half ago. Thinking through all the technology devices with which I interact on a regular basis, I thought there would be more of a fallout. Not a big fallout, just the nuisance of finding clocks off by an hour for the following two weeks. In reality, I had only to change two thermostats, a VCR, one computer that didn’t get the update, a fax machine, a telephone system, and of course my analog watch. That’s good, right? Oh wait - I forgot, SicklesInsight failed to catch the new change as well! Anyway - what this means in a nutshell is that this Sunday will be a repeat of two Sunday’s ago, only in reverse. Most of these devices will kick in realizing that it’s the day on which we historically recognize the need to save daylight, so they’ll all advance themselves an hour MORE than they should be. Oh well, it’s not really that bad - just a minor nuisance for the weekend.
