Tips & Tricks – “Frame within a Frame”

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate
HOW IT WORKS: When composing a picture, include some foreground material in front of your subject that helps frame the subject. Often this involves stepping back or looking through something which can artistically bring attention to the subject being photographed. This technique works because while the subject of your picture can likely look good on its own, putting a frame around the image can further enhance it by leading the viewers eye to the subject. It also provides a context for where the photo was taken, and helps provide more dimension in the image.
Frames within and frame can be any shape or size as shown in the example below.

What’s New with Coastline Studios?
Coastline Studios is sad to see one of our freelance videographers, Greg Ohlman, leave us for a new fulltime job in Virginia. Greg has been working with Coastline Studios since 2005 and has worked in a variety of roles from camera operator and lighting grip, to editor and production assistant. Greg will surely be missed as he starts a new life in Virginia with his wife and 3 kids. We wish you all the best Greg!
