Despite the uproar of airbrushing the works of hurricane Katrina, I was recently reminded of the humor the folks over at Google throw into various aspects of their pursuit to overtake the world. This particular subject pertains to that of google maps. We are all familiar with the mapping tools that google provides along with the outstanding satellite imagery. I’m sure we’ve even used the tool to create printed directions to get us from home to the doctors office or to the homestead of a distant relative.
I find it highly unlikely that you’ve ever attempted to map directions from your house to say, Paris? If you have a few seconds of time to waste on the web, browse to google maps and get directions from your home to Paris. If you are too lazy to map your own home, CLICK RIGHT HERE to get directions from Michigan to Paris. Regardless of where you begin your travels, you’ll notice that after a jaunt through Massachusetts you’ll be directed to Long Wharf Road (in my link this is step 26. Take a look at the following step (27). This should make you outright laugh. After reading through this step, also take a look at the estimated travel time. For those of you too lazy to click links or leave this page, here’s a screenshot:
To be fair, I also ran into this on someones blog or something of that nature in the past several weeks, but after consulting my feed reader, I am unable to discover my original sighting of this humor. So - to whoever you are that found this a few weeks ago - I hereby credit you with putting it in my head. For some reason I was just reminded of this today.
It was me.
