As I sit infront of my flat panel screens unable to find myself tired, I begin to ponder the normal blog reader’s premise in regards to commenting. Though SicklesInsight is no famous blog, there is no scarcity in its readers. The numbers are quite evenly split between real page viewers and RSS radicals; this is in addition to the fair number of individuals who have opted for email delivery subscriptions of this blog.

With numbers slowly and somewhat steadily on the rise, I feel somewhat let down by the lack of comments in relation to the material presented. Not only does this pose a confusion to me, but to the readers who may begin to wonder who else reads the article before their eyes. While I encourage and facilitate participation and interaction on the materials found on SicklesInsight, there doesn’t seem to be enough of it. This is what I’ve pondered.

While I thought about these things, I browsed several other “popular” blogs among the blogging community and found some interesting numbers for comparison. Knowing that some of these posts receive between one and two thousand hits, I was surprised to find somewhere in the range of six to twenty comments. SIX TO TWENTY COMMENTS! That’s not very many, I thought to myself. As I counted my fingers to do the math I realized that even the most popular of blogs found something to the tune of 1 out of ~100 readers would probably leave a comment. That’s only 1%.

Anyway, I will not bore you for much longer with many more of my thoughts for the evening, I just wanted to put that out there. I’ve always tried to interact with comments that are left on SicklesInsight, I’ve also tried to greater facilitate commenting by allowing you to be notified when someone replies to a post, and I can probably do us all a favor and write better content more frequently.

Oddly enough, as I constructed this article I came across “10 Techniques to Get More Comments on Your Blog” by Darren Rowse. His first words are in direct alignment with my previous statements; however, I encourage you not to relate any of these previous statements to the number of comments left on that particular post. :) The numbers are somewhat different in this case, and as always - there are exceptions. Without doubt, Darren makes some great points so I encourage you to go read this article.

In closing, I also encourage you to jump off your RSS Aggregator, get out of your email - and go leave a comment on the blogs that you read! Comments are encouraging (usually) to both the fellow readers and writers. I do not think I am alone in this thought.

I agree 100%! I think that alot of us bloggers out there put a decent amount of time/energy into our sites hoping we’ll receive some feedback in return. When we don’t we feel a little let down and this leads us to start wondering about things.

For me, this feedback is a form of fuel. Whenever I hear a comment from a reader, my tank is filled up and it gives me the kind of energy I need to continue on. Sometimes I go for stretches where I’ll hear nothing and this is a bit of a let down, but when I do hear something. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that you’ve been heard!

But keep up the writing! We are listening to you!
